Absolutely the worst "High Tea “ I have ever had the displeasure to experience. Having read all the comments on this website, the low scoring comments, I agree with wholeheartedly. We were blatantly overcharged.
Stinking toilet smells "masked" with air freshener welcomed us when entering the premises
A leek soup to begin. The “leek soup” which was obviously made of some catering type powder, obvious as the powder was not properly dissolved, large slimy lumps were floating around in what looked like dirty washing up water. Lumps with powder centres – disgusting!
The cake stand was then brought with sandwiches of inferior quality, not up to the standard of any of the other establishments offering “High Tea”.
Four enormous scones, far too big, hard, and dry
The inferior quality jam and lemon curd were in tiny portions, just enough to be enjoyed with only one of the aforementioned monster scones. Not enough Jam or lemon curd.
The inferior cream is nothing like the quality of cream to be used as a topping for a scone i.e. clotted cream and yet again the quantity was only enough for one of their scones – not four.
More stodge in the form of an apple crumble. The apple crumble was ok, nothing special. At least it tasted better than the bone dry scones. We were told “the apple crumble is very hot, just out the oven! when you finish your sandwiches and scones it will be cooled down to a nice temperature to eat”. I felt the apple crumble, it was stone cold.
The waiter requested the teapot lid should be put on the pot upside down, this would indicate our request for more hot water, our last request was ignored.
When I think about it I feel disgusted, irritated and taken advantage of. My advice to anyone would be to ignore this place and look further . It is not difficult or expensive to make scones! Flour, butter, milk, pinch of salt and maybe an egg, but not always. That’s it! Making a good sandwich is not difficult, as far as apple crumble goes the recipe is almost the same as scones but in different proportions with a bit of sugar. 24.00euros per person for that is shocking! Daylight robbery!
